David Robinson
David Robinson is a PhD. Candidate in Physics at the University of Michigan, studying theoretical and computational cosmology. He studies the formation and evolution of galaxies in cosmological simulations. When not doing physics, David enjoys reading and playing classical piano.
Lavinia Unverdorben
Lavinia Unverdorben is a PhD candidate in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Michigan. She studies Klebsiella pneumoniae, a bacterium that is a common cause of hospital-acquired infections in the United States. Her research is focused on understanding the role of Klebsiella genes in the progression from gut colonization to infection. When not in lab, Lavinia enjoys spending time at the local CrossFit gym or reading a good book at a local brewery.
Rachel Newton
Rachel Newton is a PhD candidate in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at the University of Michigan. She is broadly interested in ways to bridge the gap between theoretical machine learning and practical applications in different areas of electrical engineering. Her current research uses machine learning to improve the mathematical models used for control of large-scale systems such as wind farms, aircraft, and wireless communication networks. Outside of the lab, she enjoys west coast swing dancing, snowboarding, kayaking, and video games.
Janice Moya
Janice Moya is a Mechanical Engineering Ph.D. Student in Professor Ashley Bucsek's lab, where she studies shape memory alloys micromechanics using in-situ X-ray diffraction microscopy experimental techniques. In addition to academics, she is passionate about science communication and community involvement through volunteering. She has recently gotten very obsessed with crocheting, amassing a large amount of yarn and art supplies. It's gotten to be so much that she could probably be like those viral grannies that crocheted life-sized tanks.
Rebecca Parham
Rebecca is a Ph.D. candidate studying how microplastics are emitted into the atmosphere and their implications for air quality. Outside of the lab, you can find Rebecca reading a book, spending time outdoors, or fiercely debating the best type of bagel with her friends (the answer is everything).
Ayush Chitrakar
Ayush Chitrakar is a Chemistry Ph.D. student in Professor Ryan Bailey’s lab. His research focuses on developing diagnostic methods using microfluidics to detect bio-analytes such as electrolytes and glucose. Outside the lab, you can find Ayush playing video games, going on long bike rides, watching football, or cooking.
